The Perch is part of my botanical series, where I explore the quiet relationships between light, memory, and the natural world. Using the power of the sun, I directly expose flora from my garden to create an organic foundation, an imprint of time and place.
From there, I build the surface through layers of encaustic medium infused with ink, pigments, and fragments of my own photographic imagery. This process allows elements to emerge, recede, and coexist, much like the rhythms of nature itself.
Birds appear as fleeting presences, observers, messengers, or moments of pause, resting within a space that feels both grounded and ephemeral. The work invites reflection on stillness, connection, and the subtle beauty found in everyday environments.
Artwork Description
The Perch is an original encaustic painting that captures a tranquil, layered landscape of botanical textures and nz birdlife. Sun exposed plant forms create a luminous, organic backdrop, over which translucent layers of wax, pigment, and photographic elements are fused.
Perched and mid flight birds are interwoven through the composition, suggesting movement and quiet observation within a richly textured environment. The interplay of light, depth, and natural forms evokes a sense of calm, inviting the viewer to pause and immerse themselves in the delicate balance between presence and transience.
